Garden Journeys makes its television debut on MPT!

For the last 25 years, I have traveled the world to see gardens—to see them through my own eyes and contemplate what they represent as a means of human expression. Gardens reflect our lives, our history and our desire for a more perfect and beautiful world—using nature as an artistic medium is perhaps more salient and grander than any other!  I have a great working relationship with Maryland Public Television and this winter the producers of ArtWorks asked me to submit eight images for the local ‘pop-up’ section of the program. This was the first time I had ever thought about my photography in purely artistic terms. As a illustrator and teacher at heart, I have always considered my photography as source material for the lectures I give on garden history and design. One of my photography mentors once said that he thought it was too easy for people who just went to beautiful locations to snap a few beautiful photographs. For this assignment, I selected images that only I could have taken—scenes that spoke to me in a very personal way. Images that give me great joy to look at again and again. I hope you take a moment (actually 40 seconds) to view the segment on MPT (http://www.mpt.org/programs/artworks-season4/426/) and visit this new website again to see more of my work.

Enjoy!
